The day after
So, this won't be the long thought out post I had dancing in my head this morning. Instead I will just say I'm having a hard time concentrating on anything today. In my head it's all-things-Obama. Although I spent the entire day yesterday glued to the news, I want more. I woke up early just to watch the news this morning. Opened my google reader only to encounter non-inauguration day feeds, closed it and opened the NYTimes. I've spent the past few hours scouring every slide show, post, story, blog about the celebration. I am completely captivated by these moments in history.
The Obamas have an aura. You want them to do well and that President Obama does his job well. What is remarkable to me is that there was almost two million people in attendance and not a single arrest. It was a rare day and everyone was full of optimism, including me. But now it's time to get to work.
Ok, enough. Let's get onto some visual cuteness. And a fuzzy warm story.

the red plate
I came across a blog today that mentioned the red plate. Do any of you remember these? The red plate was a big deal in our house, especially between my mom and me.

Whenever there was anything of significance, a birthday, a recital or a just a day we needed cheering up, the red plate was our dinner plate. When I was about eight years old I broke the red plate. My little self was trying to coax the sugar canister from the top of the refrigerator when it feel atop of the red plate sitting on the counter breaking it in two. I was convinced I had just committed the worst sin in the world.
The next day after school I gathered all of my saved money and told my Mom I was going to the Library. Instead, I went to the little boutique that carried the red plate in our small town. Bought it, ran back to the Library and waited for her to pick me up. When she got there I handed her the box and cried my little eyes out while she hugged me. I got to eat on the red plate that night.
That's why the red plate is such a big deal to me. Since my mom passed away I haven't seen the plate. Families have merged, moved, grown and then moved again. It was undoubtedly given away or sold at one of the many yard sales. But, someday I definitely want to have one of these plates for my own family tradition.

i really think i need this shirt:
isn't it a perfect commemorative. i'm still so sad about mothers cookies. yes, i hadn't eaten them in say 5 years. but when i heard the news i immediately ran to the store and bought myself a bag and ate them. half in my car and the other half curled up watching chuck (p.s. i heart me some chuck).
it's taking a lot of will power not to press "+ add to cart". we'll see if i make it though the day.
who wants to talk about PR?? so glad Leeanne won!

as rachel zoe would say "i die!"

oh howdy hum week.
it's been a funny couple of days. teeter-tottering between getting sick, wanting to buy massive amounts of fluffy dresses (oh how you taunt me j.crew) and the strangest night terrors. did i say night terrors!?!? i sure did. i woke up in the middle of the night with heart racing standing looking out of my balcony wrapped in all of my bedding. fitted sheet included and no idea how i got there! don't know what's going on but hopefully this weekends trip to the bay area, wine and some yoga will put things back in order.
but on a sane note. here are some things that have keep the week perspective:
tonight i actually get to letterpress! i am so excited it's like christmas!
but on a sane note. here are some things that have keep the week perspective:
- i'm sure you've all seen it, but here is the latest snl palin skit just gives me fits of giggles.
- ellie over at the "lucky nest" gives us some awesome linky links of the "adorable" gov.
- this homeless man has it so much harder than you.
- The Hills has been pretty ho hum this season, but this weeks episode was pretty awesome. I was too swamped (read lazy) to do a recap, but paige does it best so ready away!
- and the best thing that happened this week was my excessive use of yearbookyourself.com! here are some gems of boyfriend and me.

weekend wrapup
and it's already wednesday! crap, i'm bad at this. it's been busy, but lots of good things have happened.
first up was the shower. the shower. the one where i made what seemed like a kazillion jars of peach jam.

(stolen from shanasty)
it turned out really great and i think everyone actually enjoyed it. and we all hate showers! helps that wine was involved.
then on sunday the kitty switcharoo became complete.
last weekend we bid adieu to our favorite meanie olivier. he now resides with j&d in prather where he kills rats to his hearts content, living the life he was meant to.
this weekend rufus and frannie, a brother and sister duo rescued by neighbors l.&m., came to live with us.
