Nothing makes me happier than...

tacky British weddings.

Seriously. When I come across a good one, my day is instantly brighter. Does it get any better than miles of ruffles being carried by horse and buggy. I think not. Here is a snippet of some of my favorites.

This wedding dress is 425 pounds AND the girl is 16. nightmare.

Where's Waldo the Chanel logo. Worth it.

But, to be fair, we shouldn't give the British all the credit. Behold:

permanent collar around her neck symbolizing her as his property

Notice the ceremony location...

Out of this world

I just spent the last half hour watching clips of this:

Did you know that Burt Reynolds was Evie's Dad, Troy (from the inside of a glowing cube)‽ I used to love this show and am still soooooo jealous of Evie's ability to stop time.

The day after

So, this won't be the long thought out post I had dancing in my head this morning. Instead I will just say I'm having a hard time concentrating on anything today. In my head it's all-things-Obama. Although I spent the entire day yesterday glued to the news, I want more. I woke up early just to watch the news this morning. Opened my google reader only to encounter non-inauguration day feeds, closed it and opened the NYTimes. I've spent the past few hours scouring every slide show, post, story, blog about the celebration. I am completely captivated by these moments in history.

The Obamas have an aura. You want them to do well and that President Obama does his job well. What is remarkable to me is that there was almost two million people in attendance and not a single arrest. It was a rare day and everyone was full of optimism, including me. But now it's time to get to work.

Ok, enough. Let's get onto some visual cuteness. And a fuzzy warm story.

(isn't Sasha the cutest on her little box?!?)

the red plate

I came across a blog today that mentioned the red plate. Do any of you remember these? The red plate was a big deal in our house, especially between my mom and me.

image

Whenever there was anything of significance, a birthday, a recital or a just a day we needed cheering up, the red plate was our dinner plate. When I was about eight years old I broke the red plate. My little self was trying to coax the sugar canister from the top of the refrigerator when it feel atop of the red plate sitting on the counter breaking it in two. I was convinced I had just committed the worst sin in the world.

The next day after school I gathered all of my saved money and told my Mom I was going to the Library. Instead, I went to the little boutique that carried the red plate in our small town. Bought it, ran back to the Library and waited for her to pick me up. When she got there I handed her the box and cried my little eyes out while she hugged me. I got to eat on the red plate that night.

That's why the red plate is such a big deal to me. Since my mom passed away I haven't seen the plate. Families have merged, moved, grown and then moved again. It was undoubtedly given away or sold at one of the many yard sales. But, someday I definitely want to have one of these plates for my own family tradition.
